Cannabis; how far we’ve come.

Like most, I discovered cannabis in my late teens through friends and random party guests. As someone who has always struggled with a heavy weight on their shoulders, the discovery of cannabis, weed, bud, Mary Jane, whatever you want to call it, was extremely uplifting.

Medical marijuana has been legal in the UK since 2018, but I myself only found out this last year and now companies seem to be everywhere. After a Zoom doctor’s appointment, proof of medicine for my anxiety and IBS issues and a couple of fit notes, I was prescribed two separate strains of cannabis. That’s it, it was that simple.

The people behind this are clearly large supporters of what positive changes cannabis can do to people’s lives. Not only are they enthusiastic to have you onboard, but they take the time to know what will suit you best and then give you an entire menu for you to browse, so you can figure out what is best for you.

In my many years of suffering from anxiety and overwhelming feelings of pressure and guilt, I’ve had multiple doctors throw pills at me with a general attitude of, “ These might work, they probably won’t, who the fuck knows…” And that lack of compassion and knowledge can seriously demoralise a person.

Cannabis is a very unresearched market. Hope more research is underway and it gets a place it deserves in modern medicine.

I am in complete agreement on every front. I used cannabis to treat the severe pain of endometriosis for years. If I had it now, I’d be using it again as there are even specific strains grown for specific purposes.

But we don’t classify alcohol as a drug because it’s not as if it destroys people’s lives, causes extreme long-lasting harm to the body and brain or is in any way addictive… Right?
